Test Preparation Tips

SAT Test Preparation Tips

1. Practice, Practice, Practice: Everyone knows that practice makes perfect. And it certainly is no different when preparing for the SAT exam. The more time you put into practice, the higher your final score will be. So just do it!

2. Take Breaks When You Need Them: Practicing for the SAT can sometimes be hard and strenuous (and boring!). Taking breaks can help you cram more info into your brain and will allow you to study for longer periods. So don’t feel bad when you make a quick snack run.

3. Learn the Directions for the Sections: The directions for each section of the exam do not change from test to test (unless there is a major update). Knowing the directions for each section will allow you to skip reading them come test day. This will save you valuable time that can be used to answer questions.

4. Know the Different Questions Types That Might Be Asked: Knowledge is power and that certainly is no different for the SAT. Being aware of the types of questions you might be asked allows you to gear your study towards those questions. It also helps to alleviate nerves on exam day because you know what is coming.

5. Practice with Problems at the Edge of Your Ability: Practicing with problems that are too easy does not allow you to grow your skill. And practicing with questions that are too hard is frustrating and wastes your time. Find that middle ground where you get the best bang for your studying buck.

MCAT Test Preparation Tips

1. Make Your Own Mnemonics: Mnemonics are a way to make memorizing concepts a lot easier, and you are more likely to remember them if you make them yourself. Use this for concepts where there are many things to remember.

2. Turn off Your Phone: Your phone is not allowed during the exam, so why have it while you are studying? It is a distraction so put it away and the study time will fly by. You can catch up with everyone else later.

3. Learn the Directions for Each Section: Each section of the exam has directions that hardly ever change. Learn the section directions now so that you can skip reading them on test day, saving time.

4. Take Breaks When Needed: You need break time to make your studying time more efficient. It is useless to study when you are tired and studying for really long periods can sometimes hurt you instead of help you.

5. Use Online Resources: Online resources are a great way to increase your score. These resources are a free way to help increase your score. If you are a self-starter that just needs some practice questions, this is the way to go.

GRE Test Preparation Tips

1. Turn off Your Phone During Study Time: You are not allowed to have a phone in the testing room. So why use one during study time? They are also a huge distraction that does not allow you to focus on your studies.

2. Go Over All of Your Mistakes: Learning from your mistakes is one of the best ways to learn. Go over all of the problems that you missed to make sure you know what mistakes you made and how you can fix them in the future (and hopefully on exam day!).

3. Learn the Section Directions Now: The section directions do not change from exam to exam. Learn them now so that you do not have to waste time reading them on exam day. Use that time to answer more questions.

4. Take at Least 2 Full Practice Exams: Taking practice tests is one of the best ways to study for the exam. Make sure that when you take a full practice exam that you try to simulate test day conditions. This allows you to be more prepared.

5. Practice, Practice, Practice!: Practice makes perfect and that certainly is no different for the GRE test. Most test preparation experts expect you to study for 20-100 hours to prepare for the exam. Studying time is directly correlated with higher exam scores, so study up.
